What have you learned from your audience feedback?
interview
we decided to conduct an audience interview concerning rock genera as we had decided that all members of the group enjoyed this type of music and felt that it would be a challenge to produce a good rock music video and there for we wanted to achieve this. we interviewed both our primary and secondary target audience and asked them the following questions in order to find out what they would like to see within a rock music video and what they would not as this would give us a much better understanding of what we should do when producing the video.
1.What would make music videos more interesting to watch
2.What is your favourite aspect of rock music videos and why?
3.Is there any rock music video you have watched that you really enjoy? if so, what did you like about it?
4.Is there something within a music video that you disliked and why?
5.Is there something you would like to see in a rock video that you haven’t seen before?
6.Why do you prefer rock over other genres of music?
7.When watching a music video would you prefer it to be performance or narrative based
8.Do you think that the legends of rock such The Beatles, have influenced the music industry?
Annotations
- Chris Higgins said how the best and most enjoyable element of a rock music video is the performance, he states how he enjoys going to gigs and in a rock music video he would enjoy 'seeing them in action and performing live even though I am not there'. He states how the high tempo of a rock song is the reason why he prefers that genre over any other, the reason that was given was; 'it suits my personality because I'm a very active, sporty person'
- Joshua Shardlow said how he enjoys seeing a narrative in a rock video that you can relate to. The reason why he prefers the genre of rock over other was the sounds in a rock song and the way it makes your feel. He says that in a rock music video he would like to see a performance which cuts to an appropriate narrative in certain places.
- Kevin Mitson said how 'the artist playing the music and singing instead of a weird storyline' is the aspect of a rock music video he most enjoys. He states how he 'is not the one for romantic music' and how he prefers (classic) rock because it it done by proper musicians who know how to play there instruments properly and don't just rely on electronically formed music which he says he 'detests'. He prefers performance music videos because he enjoys 'seeing them doing there stuff, playing the music', he says he is not that keen on a narrative video even though some rock musicians do include it.
Key Findings
- A large interest in performance based with a hint of a narrative to spice it up.
- Main focus on the band then other actors
- Editing to fit tempo of song
Doing this research helped us to get an overall idea of the audiences likes and dislikes, we found that we followed the audiences feedback in order to give the audience a video that they would enjoy watching. I feel that feedback was a very important process of making a music video because the main reason behind making a music video is to please the audience.
Pitch feedback
Good Ideas
- Theory of Opposites between 2 very different people in very different lifestyles
- Use of 2 different narratives
- Use of new creative camera shots such as POV from neck of guitar
- Performance element where appropriate
- Creative editing such as split screen between two characters
Feedback
- Where to stage narratives?
- Characters? how to make them very different
- Linking split screen to lyrics
- Twist at the end... maybe they 2 very different character meet
Changes after feedback
We are going to stage the narratives in everyday life places such as work, home. The difference between the characters will be very clear, one will be very aspirational, very clean. The other will be no bothered about life, maybe some scenes of drug us. The characters could be a boy and a girl, we could use classic stereotypes of men to portray the boy as the untidy, unruly person. The twist at the end could be them meeting up and starting a relationship, like in a lot of occasions, the girl sorts the boy out

Student video feedback during the editing process
Positive Feedback
- Creative shots of Performance
- Edits used are exciting to audience
- Instrument are well synced to musicNegative Feedback
- Lots of blank spaces where footage should be
- Excessive use of drums can become quite tedious
- Lack of focus on singer and narrativeOutcomeWith this information, we will aim to film more footage especially the narrative part over the weekend and upcoming weeks. We will aim to use the footage we have acquired in small snippets, decreasing a single clip of drumming to under 2 seconds to fit the genera. We may make the singer the prime focus of the music video but not rely on it alone. The narrative will also be fit in with key lyrics in the music and a clear divide between narrative and music will be made.

We have decided to incorporate a bit of all 6 designs into 1 cover, we will use the arm cast idea for the inside lyrical book, the record play and record will be used for the CD slot (the brojen record will be the covering for the physically CD, the band shot will be used in the front cover and the track list writen on wall will be used for the back of the album.
Conclusion
In conclusion i feel that all the feedback we got helped us a lot of different ways. The most useful feedback that we got was during the planning stages and that was to include a performance aspect as well as a narrative as the audience have liked that aspect through all of the other stages of its production. The feedback in general helped us to know what to do to make a global audience and to fit the audience demographics that we wanted and produce a video that would not only shine next to other professional media texts because it was produced in the same way but also to have our own twist to make the video ours and potentially better than others that appearer repetitive
Start with an intro and provide a running commentary throughout, saying why each piece of feedback was useful and how it shaped your ideas/progress (for example - you just check an old prezi in...you need to do more - reflect on how useful it all was in hindsight. Otherwise this is just a mass copy and paste of old posts.
ReplyDeleteadd in feedback for the final video - include YouTube and facebook comments. what would the changes you'd make next time be?
Currently a C - will be a B with the above changes
